Our Vision
We seek to evangelize and equip people with the gospel of Jesus Christ, in spirit and truth, for the glory of God.
Truth Tabernacle exists to glorify God through authentic worship and the proclamation of His Word and seeks to provide a place for everyone to come to know and experience Jesus Christ for themselves in the power of the Holy Ghost.
We believe that God loves everyone and that everyone is therefore important, and so we’ve striven to create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and comfortable to worship God with us.
If you were to walk into one of our services and look around at the people present, you would probably be struck by the different kinds of people there. You would probably see someone like you! Our congregation is composed of people of various races, ages, and social backgrounds. We are different in many ways, but we are united as a community by a common experience of the life-changing power of Jesus Christ.
The diversity of people in our congregation is reflected in the diversity of ministries at Truth Tabernacle. There is a place for everyone to be a part, but more importantly to be involved and to make a difference. We firmly believe that people are most happy and fulfilled when they have discovered God’s purpose for their lives and are actively pursuing it. And we are committed to helping everyone find their purpose and uncover the gifts that God has given them to serve Him and to bless others.
Our History
Our church began in the early 1950’s in the home of Roy and Mae Dillow. By 1952 the congregation had moved to a small block building on North Howard Street. By 1954 the church had moved to its current location at 303 South Fifth Street. The current sanctuary was constructed in 1990. Pastor Bevis assumed pastorate in 1994. During the late 1990’s, the basement was finished. An addition was added and the sanctuary completely remodeled in 2009.
Truth Tabernacle is affiliated with the United Pentecostal Church International, which has a worldwide constituency of more than 4 million in over 32,000 congregations in 177 countries.
Reaching Out
We’re genuinely excited about what God is doing at Truth Tabernacle, but we want God to do great things all over the Tri-County area, Southern Illinois, Illinois, the United States, and around the world–and we want to be a part of what He’s doing elsewhere! Because of that, we are actively involved in supporting missions programs in the United States and abroad, including orphan ministries, humanitarian needs, construction of churches, and Bible colleges.
Come and visit us during any of our services. We would love for you to experience real truth at Truth Tabernacle!
